Appreciate your article. My two cents below as an individual who wants to go green like you:
1. As an individual one can have a minimalist life style. Creating ones own food and living off the grid with renewable energy if needed. This may sound extreme but possible.
2. If one still wants to live the current lifestyle but want to become more greener by replace existing fossil powered car by electric cars, the challenges are many like you have described.

a. Still they emit greenhouse gases with the difference being from individual vehicles to power plants. But point sources are easy to control than area sources. Stack emissions are under industrial standards rather than tail pipe emissions which can also depend on the individual.

b. The battery technology is still nascent but is improving continuously. It required fossil fuel technology several years to reach this stage. Regarding the precious metals part , it is important to have circular economy to counter this. The charging infrastructure will also improve to accommodate more people. But small steps are happening.

Like you said some other technology can also come into picture in future.
